LITTLE YOU

Hi everyone!! I hope you all had a good weekend and have had a good start to the week so far? Today it is once again my turn to share with you here at 13 Arts, and today I have simply put together a start to finish step-by-step for you, quickly showing you how I have put together the following layout.

'Little You'

The photo I have used is of Jet when he was about 7 months old, and remains one of my favorite pictures of him.

Some details:

Here is the tutorial I have put together for you:

Step 1: Take a sheet of paper from the Mental Vacation Collection, then using a palette knife spread gesso carefully on your background from left to right, coming right across to the other side of the page in the center.

Steps 2 and 3: Mix a decent amount of gesso with the new Magic Powder! You want the paste to become quite thick. Use a palette knife to spread the paste through the Grid Mask from the Mental Vacation Collection. Move the stencil about your page as you go, sticking roughly to the areas of paper covered with gesso. Dry it with a heat gun, then turn your stencil a different direction, lay it over the top and spread some more paste through, once again moving about the page. Dry and repeat a third time if you think it necessary.

Tip: Make sure your paste is completely dry so that it doesn't just flatten and smudge when you lay the stencil back over it. The Magic powder makes the paste thick enough that you don't have to worry about it seeping under the edges of your mask if it is not laying flat, making it great for layering paste.

Step 4: When your background is completely dry spray Chalk Blue light mist and Pastel Green Mist quite closely to your background to get 'puddles' of mist, then use a wet paint brush to move the colors around and blend.

Steps 5 and 6: When you have finished painting, use your brush to add flicks of paint around the edge. When your misted background is thoroughly dry add some stamping. I have used a triangle texture stamp, and butterflies. I have also painted my butterflies with the same mists used on the background, using paper towel t dab off any excess.

Add some random flicks of Black and White SPLASH! Inks.

Steps 7 and 8: Cut your papers and distress the edges, then attach them to the left of your page using layers of foam tape. Add some calico, natural waxed twine and Gold thread, along with some gold washi tape at the top and bottom of the page to add a little warmth.
Sand and distress the edges of your photo then secure it above the twine circle.

Steps 9 and 10: Now you can begin to embellish. I have begun with a few flowers to the right of my photo and a white vine, on which I have misted the tips of the leaves.
I have taken a decorative chipboard heart and painted the entire thing (including the edges) white with gesso, then I have mounted it up on 2 flowers for dimension.

Steps 11 and 12: Continue to build up your flowers/embellishments around the photo until you are happy with the look.
Add some Gold word stickers to the top and bottom of the page for your title, and add 2 little chipboard hearts covered in Gold glitter to the right of the page to create a visual triangle with the Gold.
Next randomly spray your flowers/papers with Pearl Turquoise Light Mist and add a few small squirts of pastel Green to them as well.

Step 13: For the final touch, use a small brush paint Gel Medium onto random petals of random flowers then sprinkle some of the Dark Green Grit into the wet Gel.

So there you have your finished project!!!

I hope you enjoyed my tutorial and found something to inspire you!!!

CUTE MOMENTS

Hey everyone!!! I hope you all had a great Easter. I sure did, though I must confess I am exhausted after such a fun and busy weekend!!!

Today I would like to share with you a layout using some of my favorite new 13 Arts Products, including a little tutorial to show you how to go....

From This:

To This:

The photo I have used in this layout is of my Niece Kayla, and because it is such a fun, carefree photo, I wanted to create, and add elements that expressed that, whilst being very feminine at the same time.

Some close-ups:

 Here is the tutorial:

Step 1: Begin by adding some Orange Twigs to one side of the photo, and cutting up some fruit Sprigs to add around the layout among your flowers clusters. Use Gel Medium to attach them firmly in place.
Using a brush 'paint' some Gel Medium around your layout beneath flower clusters then use your fingers to sprinkle 2 different sizes of microspheres into the wet Gel.

Step 2: When the gel Medium is dry spray beneath your microspheres with 2 colors of mist. I have used Pastel Salmon and Pastel Raspberry. Spray it in a way so that random parts of your flowers also get touches of color. It helps tie everything together.

Add some of the new Decorative Pink Crystals around the page, again using Gel Medium to Hold them firmly in place.

Step 3: Paint a chipboard Butterfly from the Fly Away Collection using 13 Arts paints in coordinating colors. Use a fine brush for more detail, then reattach to your page.

Step 4: Brush the tips of all your flowers with Ayeeda paint in Gold Glitter. Also brush some of your heart, butterfly and twigs.

You can see the Gold Glitter a little better here.

Step 5: Paint your Dusty Attic frame in Gesso using your finger for a bumpy texture then also brush in Gold glitter paint. For the rest of the title, take the word Memories from the Fly Away Chipboard Words Set and paint and in black ink for a fast and even coverage.
Also reattach to the page, layering them, and adding a flower on top.

Randomly 'paint' parts of your flowers with gel Medium and sprinkle Colored grit in Faded Pink into the Wet Gel. Allow it to dry, then tip the page up to remove any loose Grit.

Step 6. Finally go around the edges of your composition and beneath random areas of paper and flowers add some Colored Mica Flakes in Light Gold.

It can be time consuming adding the extra effects, but as I am sure you will agree, the result is well worth it!!

I hope I have inspired you to play around with out new products, all of which are already available in the store!!!

Have a great week!!!

LOVE - 13 ARTS

Hi everyone!! I am feeling rather terrible at the moment because i forgot to share this with you. It went up on the 13 Arts blog a few weeks ago now, and for some reason I forgot to publish the post...... It has been a draft this whole time :-( You all have my apologies!!!

Anyway, How is everyone today? Is everyone looking forward to Easter and the school holidays? I know I am!!!

Today I want to share with you this little canvas I made to sit on my desk, though I have had to hide it from Mom so that she does not try to steal it!!! She got the last 6!!! I have also prepared a step-by-step tutorial for you!!

'Love'

Some close-ups:

Do you ever have an idea for a mixed-media canvas or layout that you just have to make, but no matter how hard you try to bring it to life, it never seems to work? Even if it is just something as simple as a mix of colors?

Sometimes to create what you want and get it right you not only need to build your media, but sometimes take it away too, until you are finally left with what you aimed for. My tutorial today takes you through how I put this canvas together, adding and taking away, with some steps seeming pointless, until I achieved the look I was after.

Step 1: Taking my 8x8 canvas panel I began spreading layers of modeling paste with my palette knife, using the knife to play with the paste on the canvas to create interesting textures. I wanted it to be very bumpy and dimensional. I waited until the first layer of modelling paste was dry then added a second layer creating even more texture. While the paste was still wet I have sprinkled micro-spheres randomly over the background.
Because the modelling paste is so thick I have let it dry naturally as using a heat gun can cause the paste to bubble up, affecting the texture you have worked to create.

Step 2 and 3: Next I have taken 13 Arts paints in Matte Mint, Matte Pistachio, Matte Pea and Matte Green. Starting with the lightest I have painted a vertical stripe down either side of the canvas, just off the edge. Then working my way towards the middle of the canvas I have continued to paint using a darker shade each time until I ended with a single strip of Matte Green in the middle. Next I took some Matte Turquoise and painted the middle of the canvas horizontally. I sprayed the canvas with water and tilted it first one way, then the other to get some drips going up and down.

Step 4 and 5: I decided that I wasn't quite happy with the lighter greens on the edge, or the middle, so I have sprayed the canvas with water then used a wet paintbrush to brush some of the color off, dabbing up excess water and color with kitchen towel. I have then proceeded to add color again, Matte Pea, Matte Turquoise, and a tiny bit of Matte Mint around the edges, blending it in.

Step 6 and 7:  I have made a custom paste using 13 Arts Gel Medium, Chalk Blue Light and Chalk Sap Green Mists, and fine green glitter, then spread it through a mask onto my background, wiping some excess off around the edges. I decided it still needed more color so I have sprayed some more of the Chalk Sap Green Mist directly onto the background, and added some more Matte Turquoise paint, using a brush and water to blend in. I have then rubbed gesso all over the background, using my finger instead of a brush so that it caught onto all the raised textures only. I also decided I didn't like the swipes of custom paste around the edge, so I have rubbed gesso into everything, all the way around the edge, covering and lightening.

Step 8 and 9: I have painted squares onto the background using the Color Basics Squares Mask and Vivid Violet paint. Because of the texture the mask does not sit flat so I was unable to use a stenciling brush (the color would have seeped under the edges). I have instead used a small paintbrush to draw the squares, then filled them with color. I have mixed a little Vivid Violet paint with water and added some splatter on the background. I have also added some Triangles using the Color Basics Triangle Stencil and Modelling Paste. I had the same issue with the mask not sitting flat, so some of the paste did seep under the edges of the stencil which I neatened up using a pin. I have cut a strip of 13 Arts paper from the All Is Love Collection and glued it across the middle of the canvas adding more Triangles on top.

Step 10 and 11: Add some Splatters of Black Ink and watered down Pearl Gold Paint. I have cut some paper's from different collections, distressing the edges and adding foam tape between each layer.

Step 12 and 13: To make your arrow take a skewer and 2 purple feathers, using twine and cotton to attach them to one end of the skewer. Cut a feather shape from some 13 arts paper and a triangle for your arrow from the same piece. Glue the paper feather on top of your purple feathers, and add glue to the ends of all three then dip in Chunky Gold Glitter. Add a flower to hide the join between feathers and twine. Glue your triangle to the other end of the skewer.

Step 14 and 15: First a chipboard frame with with gesso then brush with Gold Glitter paint. Then paint 2 chipboard butterflies, beginning with Vivid Violet in the center of each wing and Matte Lavender on the edges, blending the 2 together with a wet brush. Use the white and Silver Glitter to paint the center and add detailing on each wing.

Step 16 and 17: Glue a torn square of calico to the center of your papers, then add a straw and twine circle on top, finishing off with metallic turquoise thread.

Step 18 and 19: Begin building your composition. I have added a Black and White Chipboard Frame to the center of the canvas, placed on top of the twine circle, then proceed to add my chipboard on the lower left corner with the arrow crossing over the top on the opposite angle of the straw. I have then added in my flowers working on a diagonal across the frame. I have also added a resin piece in the top left corner.

Step 20: Next add your butterflies and the 'Love' Brad. Finish off the canvas by brushing all the flowers with gesso and Gold Glitter Paint. I have added a touch of the Gold Glitter Paint to the feathers also.

That is all I have for you today, but I hope you have enjoyed.

See you again soon!!

LITTLE MOMENT

Hey everyone!!! How are you? Looking forward to the weekend? I sure am!! Today I am sharing with you a beautiful girly layout using some of my favorite smaller pieces of Dusty Attic chipboards.

'Little Moments'

Some Details:

I have covered different sized chevrons from the Chevron Panel Small with patterned paper that coordinates with my paper layers. I have placed a group of Chevrons above and below my photo, using foam tape for dimension, with both groups pointing towards my photo like arrows.

I have tucked beneath my photo one of the ATC Frames #4. I absolutely love these at the moment and have been using them lots. I have primed it with gesso then added color with Twinkling H2o's.
At the Bottom of the photo I have placed the Hashtag Saying #Lifeisgood. It has been painted black then randomly swiped with Gold Glitter Paint.

I have layered above my flowers and papers a Mini Ornate Frame. I have painted it with Dusty Attic Paint in Alabaster then given it a very thick coat of Dusty Crackle Varnish to get those nice big cracks. When the crackle paste was dry I have brushed Gold Glitter Paint into the cracks.
Both of the Butterflies have been painted using 13 Arts paints in Pink, Salmon and Coral.

That is all from me today!! I hope you have enjoyed my post!!
