PRIMA OCTOBER BAP AND JOURNAL PAGE

Hey everyone hope you all had a lovely week. So I thought that today would be the perfect time to share my most recent creation which I made for Prima's October BAP. I absolutely loved the sketch this month, designed by the very talented Kasia Krzyminska. It was perfect for this photo of my Mom, which I have been wanting to scrapbook forever. She was only 22 when it was taken and very beautiful, so I wanted to create something beautiful to go with it.

'22'

I've had this photo of my Mom floating about my desk for years, but I've never been really good at designing a layout to suit old photo's. When I saw the sketch from Prima this month I just knew it would be perfect. All I had to do then was raid my Prima stash. Most of the Prima products on here are from old collections as my stash is just so low and I'm waiting on a delivery. I was actually worried I wouldn't have enough Prima supplies to finish. But I did!!
All the paper used on here is Prima, including the background, however it has been layered over in gesso texture paste, watercolors and stamping.

Here are some close-ups for you:

The clip at the top is just an office supply I found laying about in my dad's desk. I've used some jeans studs from the junk yard findings centered in the masking tape X's, and a small cut off from one of my favorite Prima flowers, the Crystal Palace vines.

Another beautiful Prima flower, chipboard and Butterfly cut from patterned paper. Another junk yard finding, glued in the centre of part of an old broken necklace. I really love the white little discs they work so well with these products, so I'm very happy I decided to keep my necklace when it broke and not just chuck it.

These cute little flags/banners were cut out from the packaging for my wood tickets. I was going through my stuff chucking out rubbish and I was like, 'hey, these will look great on my page!!!'

More flowers, chipboard, art tiles and junkyard findings, as well as the canvas alphas (well numbers in this case, lol!) from the engraver collection. The script stamp used in the background was also Prima. I had lots of fun making this layout, especially mixing so many different paper collections and embellishments as well. Can't wait to update my stash as I'm in love with all their products if I could afford it I'd buy it all, hehehe!!

Next up I have a page from my art journal to share with you. I had actually done the background for this page a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately I got side-tracked by all the other creations I had and still have half made on my desk... lazy right?? When I finished the layout of my Mom, all I could think of was how much I'd like to do something similar but with touches of blue, not pink. So I raided my photos on Saturday night and found a photo of my son the day he was born. I've never wanted to scrapbook it before as it always breaks my heart to see. That's when I decided to use it in my art journal and write a little about how I felt that day.

'Darling'

During the birth, my son inhaled some of the amniotic fluid so he was unable to breathe or feed properly. About 2 hours after he was born he was taken to the neonatal intensive care unit where he spent the next 16 days. It was a very emotional time for me. I was unable to go with him due to some complications of my own, and I was so frightened for him, so worried. It was about 5 hours later when I was finally well enough to go. It seemed like 5 days. When I saw him hooked up to all those machines and the feeding tubes my heart broke. I wasn't even allowed to hold him. I've always struggled with this and while I know that sometimes these things just happen as a mother you cant help but feel like it was your fault. I'm glad I finally decided to use this photo in my journal. It was very therapeutic to express my feelings through my art and my small amount of journaling on this page.

Here is what the background looked like originally:

I used paper torn from an old high school job guide for the background then layered gesso, modelling paste, and finished with water color paints.

Some detailed shots:

Dusty Attic, Collections Elements, Prima, and Bo Bunny. I painted the edge of the photo with a thick layer of gesso and dried with a heat gun to bubble. I then painted with watercolors.

Masking tape, paper clip, Prima Chipboard title and Kaisercraft rub-on.

I really love resist canvas at the moment, it's so versatile and can be made to match just about anything. I've layered some broken jewelery pieces with an old rusty washer, and painted a little white rose blue. I added a Tim Holtz pen nib too.

The center of my little Prima flower vanished so I used a button instead, works well though, I've layered another white disc from my broken necklace on top of a Bo Bunny snowflake, then added the Prima Junkyard's jean stud to the center. I finished off the page by adding splashes of blue watercolor to the page around photo's and embellishments and allowing it to run down the page.

Unfortunately I don't have anymore to share just yet as it's been a busy week and I've not had a chance to finish some of my projects yet. I will have more to share soon though. I'm going to try and post something again in a few days. Hope you all have a creative week and that you found some inspiration here today. Thanks for stopping by. Xoxox!!
