Here is the sketch for this month:
Awesome right??? So I have changed a few things on here to better suit my style, including moving almost the entire design towards the left of the page as I don't do centered quite so well. My photo sits a lot higher up and I've used up lots of the page, but overall I'm really happy with the way this turned out.
'So Big!'
As you can see, for the feathers I have instead used a 12x12 feather mask to create a background, then added 2 handmade calico feathers. I created the feathers using the template by Leeann Pearce which was shared on the ScrapFriends blog recently. You can see the post here.
In place of the strips of patterned paper running across the top of the page, I have instead used only one which I moved down slightly from the top before tearing the bottom edge and then punching. The side banners I have layered under my photo are meant to take the place of some of the strips on the right.
Some detailed shots:
Instead of the two overlapping circles at the top of the sketch I have simply made a tear, adding patterned paper behind it and then a butterfly underneath. I have added the two pegs to the side of the photo in the same place the sketch has the word 'HI', and I have added the mosquito where the button was on the strips of paper. I have however used quite a few paper layers behind my photo in keeping with the sketch.
The feathers in the background were created using watercolors, mists and acrylic inks, along with chunky glitter and sequins. I love wood veneers at the moment.... I use them on everything!!! Here you can see I have added the wood veneer saying 'Crazy Cool' to the bottom left of my photo, the opposite side of the saying in the sketch. This was mainly because I hadn't left enough room there for it and the page was better balanced with it here.
As you can see here I have added a flower cluster in the place of the circle at the bottom of the photo. As always my page has to be full of clutter or it doesn't feel complete. More is always more... right???
I have used Prima flowers, Kaisercraft mini blooms,The Pink Paislee artisan elements, Studio Calico bow and wood veneers, a Tim Holtz light bulb, ect....
To make these feathers I first printed out the Leeann's feather doddle template and cut out the feathers I wanted to use. Then getting some plain card I glued some calico to it, smoothing out any wrinkles as I went. When the glue was dry I flipped the card over and traced around the templates, then cut out the feathers. To finish off I painted around the edge of the feathers with a dark brown watercolor paint, to help them stand out against the page, and hand-stitched the middle.
For extra detail I have added hand-tied bows, buttons and string, some butterflies, rolled up twine and washi tape.
I have added baker's twine, waxed twine, and natural twine as a frame to my photo. I love the combination of these together. I have also added a small green arrow down the side of the photo instead of at the top and placed the paper clip pointing downwards and speech bubble to the top of the photo instead.
The pinwheel I actually made for a different layout and never ended up using. It was the very last thing I added to this layout. It didn't feel right, like something was missing, but I couldn't figure out what. I tried adding flowers and pins, ect.... Eventually I found the pinwheel, and I'm so glad I did as it was the perfect finishing touch.
As you can see I have moved my title slightly down the page. Having it right at the very top just didn't suit me or my layout.

I think I already said this, but I'll say it again anyway.... I had so much fun creating this!!! I love ScrapFriends sketches, they are so great to work with.... Even if I do change a few things to suit me!!!
Now I was going to share a second layout with you today, but I am out of time.... I promised my son he could go to the park this afternoon, so for now, I have to head out. I will share it with you tomorrow though. Promise!!! It's the first layout I've done it weeks that hasn't been for a challenge.... Yes I know.... I've been just a little challenge crazy lately.... and probably will be for a while!! It's so much fun!
